Judges’ Association of Serbia is a professional, non government, non profit organization in favor of the establishment of an independent, impartial, professional, efficient and responsible judiciary, through affirmation of law as a profession, advancement of regulations, strengthening of respect, professional ethics and the dignity of judges, with a goal of building a legal state and the rule of law. JAS today has approximately 1000 registered members and 25 branches covering entire territory of the Republic of Serbia, while the Head Office is in Belgrade. It works through 10 Commissions in different fields of law.
Professional association of judges, during its existence, became well recognized and respected due to its engagement in promotion of the rule of law, international standards and the need for the reform of judicial system, for which JAS offered the solutions. Almost all of the new solutions prescribed by the package of the current 2008 judiciary laws were promoted by JAS.
Serbian association of judges is sustainable, experienced in comparative functioning of judiciaries, familiar with acquis, promoter of the judiciary reform and among strongest national associations of judges in Europe.
JAS is the member both of MEDEL (Magistrats Еuropéens pour la Democratie et les Libertés) and of IAJ (International Association of Judges).
Its relevance has been firstly and better recognized by foreign institutions and organizations – for the promoting Rule of the Law, OSCE reworded JAS president as person of the year 2007.
